Donna Greco, Paris, shoes, ca. 1925-35. Label stamped on sock liner: DONNA GRECO/66 FAUBERT ST HONORE/PARIS 8e (PROCHE L’ELYSEE). Silk, leather, grosgrain.Collection of Shelburne Museum, 2000-24.194ab
Donna Greco was a shoemaker during the 20th century, whose footwear was available in Paris in the fashionable 8th arondissement and in the United States through department store trunk shows and custom orders. While few examples of her work seem to survive in American museum collections, descriptions of her designs indicate a preference for vivid colors, and these shoes are no exception.
It is not clear whether Donna Greco is any relation to N. Greco, but one 1953 source lists N. Greco, not Donna, as being at 66 Rue du Faubourg St Honore, which is the address on her hot stamp.
